Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players can get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same approach in nearly every poker game.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult initially, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low hand.
