NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
