Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Colby on November 9th, 2024
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
