Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
