Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Colby on May 15th, 2024
Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
