Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Colby on May 8th, 2023
Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
