Online Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

by Colby on June 12th, 2021

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
