Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Colby on February 20th, 2021
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
