Poker has become world celebrated as of late, with televised tournaments and celebrity poker game shows. The games popularity, though, stretches back in reality a bit farther than its television ratings. Over the years many variants on the first poker game have been developed, including some games that are not in fact poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of the above-mentioned games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with chemin de fer than long-standing poker, in that the gamblers wager against the house instead of each other. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is no bluffing or other kinds of bamboozlement. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to pay up prior to the croupier saying "No further wagers." At that moment, both you and the casino and of course all of the different gamblers are given 5 cards each. After you have observed your hand and the bank’s initial card, you need to in turn make a call bet or surrender. The call wager’s value is on same level to your original wager, indicating that the stakes will have increased two fold. Bowing out means that your bet goes immediately to the casino. After the bet comes the showdown. If the bank doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your bet is given back, plus a sum equal to the initial wager. If the casino does have ace/king or greater, you win if your hand defeats the casino’s hand. The dealer pays out chips even with your ante and set expectations on your call bet. These odds are:
- Even for a pair or high card
- 2-1 for 2 pairs
- 3-1 for three of a kind
- 4-1 for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- seven to one for a full house
- twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
- 50-1 for a straight flush
- 100-1 for a royal flush
