Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Colby on December 15th, 2017

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
