Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Colby on December 5th, 2016
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
