Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
